Mandate:
ERA Television Council members are direct response professionals from ERA member companies in good standing, who are engaged in some facet of retailing or marketing via television, and are considered experts within their fields. The goal of the Council is to strengthen the relationships between and among those involved in the buying and selling of direct response television time through information, education, and open forums of discussion.
A steering committee comprised of Council members plans and directs the council’s activities.
The Council of the whole has at least two meetings year, in person – one at the ERA Annual Conference, and one in conjunction with the ERA mid-Winter Conference.
The Council chair also serves as the steering committee chair. The chair is sits at the pleasure of the ERA Board chair.
With the exception of the two in-person meetings on-site, the steering committee meets monthly, every third Thursday at 2pm ET, telephonically.
For the purposes of voting, one, and only one, representative from any ERA member company shall be an eligible steering committee member.
Currently, members serve as liaisons to the Education committee, the MarCom Committee, and the Latin American council.
If an active steering committee member has two consecutive “no calls/no shows”, that member will be placed on inactive status in the committee, meaning that they will receive the information pertaining to the council activities, but not be considered active on the steering committee again unless they attend two consecutive meetings of the steering committee.
If a Council member is absent from both in-person meetings, and four consecutive conference calls, and gives no report to the chair or staff, then the Council shall be de-list the individual from the Council roster.
Council members are also expected to assist with the planning of Television direct response advertising-specific sessions during annual conference and events, to provide ample guidance in relation to Television direct response research and industry analysis, to assist and offer expertise regarding Television direct response related government affairs initiatives, and to educate the general ERA membership on the best practices of Television direct response advertising.
